Police Launch “Brutal” Operation in Bahrain

(Euronews: 0700 PST, February 17, 2011) The full extent of the police crackdown against demonstrators in Bahrain is becoming more evident, with at least three killed and 60 people reported missing. Dozens of tanks have taken up position around the site of the popular protest in the centre of the capital, Manama. The streets around Pearl Square are empty of protesters, a day after thousands had gathered to demand more say in the country, where a Sunni monarchy rules over a mostly Shi’ite population.
